Love the message of this video…
…keeping it real

I shared this video tonight with my 21 year old daughter she and was shocked. She said, “I new they did this but to actually see it is very impactful.”
The media sets the bar so high for teens and young adults and distorts reality. How is it affecting their wellness, both mentally and physically? Even if one teen see this video, begins to understand what is real and what isn’t, and then decides to not buy into the hype, it was worth the time to pay it forward…will you?

I’m smack in the midst of my entrepreneurial journey in this life, and I have to say I’m loving it. Are there ups and downs?… of course, I’m an entrepreneur and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
Here are a few things I’ve learned on my leadership journey:
1. Be yourself – Since April and August Quattro colleges I’ve realized you will touch many more people by your personal stories and just being your magnificent you. Heart sell not Hard sell… it comes from the place that connects and people get it, especially in today’s world.
2. Slow down! – There is no time like the present…period! Connect with yourself and others in this moment, it’s truly all we have. If you are off in the future or living in the past you are missing out. Take time to meditate, journal, get out in nature. Every part of you will be grateful.
3. Tap in to your intuition – Really be aware of that inner voice, your gut feeling, or even the hairs on the back of your neck. How many times have you had an initial feeling, not acted on it, and it was the better choice? I’m notorious for this in grocery lines…but maybe it’s the universe telling me to heed #2!
4. Build relationships – Show genuine interest in others. The gifts of friendship and trust are priceless. We are not supposed to take this journey alone!
5. Listen Well – There is nothing that stops a conversation more quickly than when someone who is listening to another’s story, suddenly interjects and tries to: educate, give advice, judge, wants to fix, does a one up, invalidates and ignores. Everyone of us just wants to be heard and understood. As my good friend Zach Slobin says, “Listen till your ears hurt!”
6. Give it Away – Leadership that matters is leadership that is sustained. Sustaining leadership requires a plan for distributing it to others…learn to delegate. When you designate a task you are entrusting those that are part of your team. “The main mark of successful leaders is not their impact on student learning at the end of their tenure, but rather the number of good leaders they leave behind who can go even further.” – Michael Fullan
My journey is far from over, I’m in for the long haul… are you? What Leadership skills you have learned so far?
Be the light,
L.

I have been involved with ACTION – AIDS Care Teams In Our Neighborhood, for close to 4 years now, and for the last year I have sat on the board of this grass root organization with great pleasure. ACTION is all about enriching the lives and maximizing the self-sufficiency of men an women living with HIV/AIDS.
Today was our biggest fundraiser of the year, Ragin Cajun…a fabulous cocktail party with amazing food, music, people, honors, putting contest trip to Hawaii and more. To be honest I was nervous how the day will turn out and excited to be with my care partner. The result…our best Ragin Cajun EVER and fun was had by all!!!
I believe if you truly want to get outside yourself… donate your time. I mean this from the bottom of my heart and this comes from my own experience. I believe we innately want to contribute to others in our lives, but sometimes we get caught up in everyday life…we may want to contribute, but we decide not to follow through because we lack 2 resource – time and money…is this true for you?
There are many organizations out there such as ACTION where you can give as much time as you humanly can, no more, no less… with no judgment. I invite you to look inside yourself and ask, can I donate a few hours a month? A week? A day?…find whatever works for you and step out of your comfort zone. The better question is… are you willing? If so what legacy will you leave behind?
Find one that fits for you and if you need help or resources please call me: 949.661.4422 I’d be happy to help.
Many thanks to my son Clayton for his love and creativity in constructing the putting course today and to Quattro community member Dee Duncan for all his support in helping at todays event…You ROCK Clay and Dee!
